Guidance, Recovery, and Overcoming Wound (GROW) Research – Phase 2

Focus: Support Systems & Trauma Recovery:
As we enter Phase 2 of the GROW project, our research takes a deeper look into the healing journey following the 2024 student-led revolution in Bangladesh. Phase-2 is an intervention study that seeks to understand how different forms of support influence trauma recovery following the 2024 student-led revolution in Bangladesh.
🎯 What are we studying?
This phase focuses on the impact of formal and informal support systems — including mental health services, family structures, peer networks, and cultural practices — in helping individuals process trauma.
👥 Study Design:
The intervention group will participate in a series of in-person workshops hosted at BRAC Centre, Mohakhali, through the Nirban Healing Workshop 🔗 Workshop info.
These interactive sessions will introduce coping mechanisms, self-care practices, and community-based healing approaches.
The control group will consist of individuals from the general population who experienced or witnessed the traumatic events of July 2024 but did not receive any formal support.
📋 We will use validated self-reported psychological tools:
✔️ Kessler Psychological Distress Scale – K10 (Bangla version)
✔️Impact of Event Scale (Bangla version)
Through this research, we aim to generate evidence on the real-world effectiveness of trauma support — especially in contexts where formal care is limited, and informal systems play a critical role.
🧩 Our goal: to inform future interventions that are culturally relevant, community-centered, and accessible to those most affected

Update – Phase 1 Complete
GROW is a research project dedicated to understanding the impact of the student-led revolution in Bangladesh (July 2024), with a focus on trauma, resilience, and inter-generational experiences. The events of July 2024 marked a turning point in Bangladesh’s history — driven by the courage, conviction, and collective action of its students. But revolutions don’t end in the streets. Their emotional and psychological aftermath often remains unspoken. By exploring the psychological legacy of the 2024 student movement, GROW aims to inform not only academic discourse, but also practical responses that prioritize wellbeing, empathy, and long-term recovery.
We believe research can be a tool for remembrance, resistance, and rebuilding.
We are excited to share that Phase 1 of the project has been successfully completed. In this phase, we aimed to:
✔️ Assess the prevalence and severity of PTSD following the events.
✔️ Identify the coping mechanisms and resilience strategies used by individuals.
✔️ Compare the severity of trauma across generations – Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z.
This research sheds light on how different age groups process collective trauma and adapt in times of crisis. The findings will contribute to informed mental health responses, policy development, and community healing strategies.
As we move into Phase 2, we look forward to continuing this important work with care, collaboration, and scientific integrity.

Vulnerabilities of Climate migrants in Dhaka, Bangladesh

We are proud to be providing data analysis and manuscript writing support for a vital project on climate-induced migration in Bangladesh.
🌍 Dhaka alone accommodates 42% of the country’s in-migrants. With a population of around 10 million, at least 4 million live in over 3,500 informal settlements—many displaced by climate-related challenges.
Our focus:
🏘️ Understanding the lived experiences of climate migrants in Molla and Korail settlements in Dhaka.
This work is crucial in highlighting the human impact of climate change and informing better policy and support mechanisms.
