The Research & Evaluation Office (REO) presented its paper, “Lessons for Immunisation Policy and Practice From the Deadly Measles Resurgence in Bangladesh,” at the 9th Southern Cross Australasian Travel and Tropical Medicine Conference in Brisbane.
The paper was presented by Dr. Md Masudul Haque, with Dr. Juma Rahman as corresponding author. It examines the immunity gap faced by infants older than six months who are not yet eligible for their first measles vaccine dose under the national immunisation schedule. This gap leaves them at higher risk of measles, especially during outbreaks.
The same concern was raised in two separate conference sessions focusing on different settings, underlining its relevance for immunisation policy worldwide.
This work reflects REO’s commitment to rigorous, locally grounded research that informs public health practice.
